A lean-to is a covered extension that attaches to one or both sides of an existing metal building. It has its own support legs and a single-slope roof that leans away from the main structure, creating additional covered space for vehicles, equipment, storage, or workspace.
The most common configuration adds a lean-to to one side of the building. This creates an L-shaped covered area that is perfect for additional vehicle parking, equipment staging, or a sheltered work area adjacent to an enclosed garage or workshop.
Adding lean-tos to both sides of the main building creates a wide, barn-like footprint. This is popular for horse barns (stalls on each side with a center aisle), farm buildings, and large equipment shelters.
